Recent Texas flood disaster victims waiting for insurance payouts

The increase in natural disasters like wildfires, hurricanes and floods is causing concern for Texans who are fearful as to what the future might hold if they are impacted. This was brought to light with the recent devastating flooding after an unexpected rainstorm. While some people who filed for assistance with the damage they suffered to their property have been paid, others are still waiting.

These claims have been made to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Regardless of whether an insurance claim is made to FEMA or to a private insurer, delays and denials are an ongoing problem. People who are facing this challenge must be aware of their rights and how to pursue an insurance company to get what they are entitled to in covering for their loss.

Many flood victims are facing delays in FEMA payouts

Although many people have been covered for their losses after the Texas flood, a significant percentage of people who have filed claims have not yet been paid. There are allegations that the delays are extreme, and the process is overly complex.

A recent analysis found that almost 7,200 applicants sought help after the flood. Around 4,500 had their properties inspected for FEMA to gauge the damage. Nearly 2,800 received an approval and would either get their homes rebuilt or repaired. In addition, their damaged personal property will be replaced.

Still, the process is taking an extensive amount of time based on how many people are lodging claims. In one week alone in early August, there were over 600 applications to receive help. Just over half of those who had applied were approved during that time. Property owners are increasingly concerned that they will be left out of the process, not receiving any coverage at all.

Those facing delays or denials to insurance claims have rights

Whether it is a federal agency or a private insurer that is subjecting a person to a delayed or denied insurance claim, it is important for the property owner to understand that they have options. If it is a private insurer, they might try to use fine print or other tactics to keep their costs as low as possible. They could even outright deny a valid claim.

When trying to receive compensation for what was lost and hold the insurers accountable, it is essential to understand the law and to have help in pursuing the maximum in recovery payments for all that was lost.
